Two is better than one…
Our grandsons came for a recent visit and one morning Noah the 7 year old came in the bedroom to watch me make the bed. After the third time I circled the king size “continent” pulling, tugging and arranging the covers, Noah asked me, “Nana why doesn’t Papa help you?”
That made me giggle because I’m sure I looked a tad inadequate on my tippy toes as I tried to manage the unruly bedding. But later I did mention Noah’s suggestion to hubby, just in case he wanted to join in the morning aerobics of shaking the smithereens out of the comforter, which tends to huddle tenaciously in the corner of the duvet. He didn’t look enticed.
I do think Noah offered good counsel. Scripture puts it this way, “Two is better than one…For if either of them falls the other will lift up his companion.”
Are you doing the work of many? Perhaps it’s time to enlist others to come along side your effort.
Yesterday I climbed out of bed and headed in to get ready for my day and when I emerged with my nose powdered and my hair spiked, lo and behold, the bed was made. Woo Hoo! It was an unexpected treat and I didn’t even mind that there was a huge lump in the bottom right hand corner of the duvet.
Ohh – the excercise we little ones get when making the bed. I so often envy those who are taller who can reach over to the other side instead of circling it 4-6 times each day. However, God made me to be under 5ft – and I have fun with it. Guess he knew I needed the excercise?
This is the first time I’m reading your blog and thankful for it. I have two little boys (6&3) and an Army husband who works a lot. I have started chores for the boys based on age. Three years, three chores. It may not be perfect but it’s 9 less I have to do. Of course, I may have to fuss five times for them to get it done.
Psalm 37- 4 .+…Take delight in the Lord. and He shall give you the DESIRES of your heart”.
Patsy, I love this! I have seen you at WOF a few times and just love your attitude and your spunky nature! I, too, have a king size bed and my hubby rarely if ever helps me make it as well! I guess us girlz have to stick together! May God bless you and your fellow WOF team and everybody that is touched by your message, as I am!
Thank you, Patsy, for your wisdom and keen sense of humor. I’ve enjoyed you since your nylons hung out from beneath your dress pants.
thanks Patsy…. such a sweet little story about helping each other through life…
i am a single mom of 3 boys… and when you asked “are you doing the work of many?” I rolled my eyes and thought “heck, yes!”
but also, I have learned (just) recently to not be embarassed to ask for help. My oldest son is 18… and most of these years, I have done it all myself. hardest job on the planet.
now with a little more transparency and a lot less pride… i willingly accept the “help” which comes in many different forms… but the bottom line, don’t do life alone. Close girlfriends keep track of the weekends that my boys are gone… and they “help” me get through the lonely weekends. A mother of my middle son who lives in the same neighborhood offers to and “helps” drive him home after band practice when I have to be somewhere else for another child… can’t be two places at once. and most recently, i was in a dating relationship in which the numbskull decided he needed “time and space”…. and my core group of friends “helped” me through that fun time.
thank you Patsy… love your blogs…. hope you’re having a great weekend!! I know I will…. boys will be away :o(… but my friends booked me up so I won’t sink into a depression…. love them to pieces.
Awesomeness. Praise the LORD!
The question is–who was the comforter angel? Papa or Noah?
Often we smother ourselves doing the work of many. But when we finally ask for help (or it comes as a gift), we mind the corner lumps too much. 🙂
Love it! My hubby usually makes the bed on Sunday mornings for me, because I’m busy getting four children and myself ready for church. It may seem small, but it makes him my hero for the day!
Thank you SOOOO much for this. My husband and I are going through several health issues and have learned to lean on each other for the strength needed. My scripture for the day was Psalms 54:4 NKJV ” Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life.”
Thank you, again, for the words of wisdom.
I think getting the help without asking for it is as big a treat as the help! And making the bed goes so much faster when you have help, especially getting those top two corners of the bottom sheet in place :o)
My hubby and I have been married 24 years… with all its ups and downs, marriage is truly a blessing! Over the years I have come to appreciate the gift of life long partnership the most… two are better than one 🙂
I Love Random Acts of Kindness…. Gifts for no reason… I heard (Dr.Phil) that if couples got up each morning and thought of one kind thing to do for the other spouce… More marriages would last… I beleive it!!!
During my childhood, my daddy cleaned up the kitchen and washed the dishes every Sunday after lunch. (The dishwasher didn’t work.) I thought it was nice then; now, I realize it was amazing! Love you, sweet friend!!
My grandmother used to create duvet for the whole family. It’s unbelievable that she does this because it takes her years to finish one but the ones she made are out of this word.
Often we just have to ask our husbands for help. After almost 40 years of marriage, I decided he was as capable as I am so when I need help, I just ask him to give me a hand and he never says no. Men in general don’t seem to see the things that need doing so we just have to give them a little gentle nudge!
This is the first time I’ve been on your blog. It’s wonderful. Your insight has always been a blessing to me and given me lots of laughter, even through hard stuff! Have a blessed week!
Just put the “froggy” back in my sidebar and it made me think of you. I’ve been missing you, but know you must be busier than a one-armed paper hanger. You are always giving, and giving and giving. Take care of yourself, dear friend. XOXOX
Love the looks of this new blog. Am using WATCHING FIREFLIES as devotion for awhile. Love your sense of humor, but more than that appreciate your wisdom. Have tried for 56 years to get husband to make bed. He really sees no need for it. When I am gone, he just climbs in and out. He may have a point. 🙂 Thanks Patsy for your service to our Lord.
Patsy,
Your blogs make me laugh or cry! You are over-the-top!
