Hobbits, Clouds, and a Good Book
I think I might be a hobbit! I’m brief in stature, I love small habitats, and I tuck easily into corners.
I would be easy to overlook if it weren’t for my color-wheel wardrobe and my red bandana. It’s become my hallmark and it accomplishes so many purposes: it not only tames cow licks that would otherwise sprout rowdily, but it keeps brain cells in alignment. Well, sorta. And a bandana can serve as a flag if one is lost, a hankie to catch tears, and a bandage for wounded hearts. Like my grandma use to say, “It’s as handy as a pocket in a shirt.” And by virtue of its redness it works well for February…
I always look forward to February, even though it’s stuffed full of grey days it is also crowded with thoughts of love. I still remember skipping home from school as a child with a shoe box full of valentines from classmates. Today my way of keeping the valentines coming is I load myself up with fresh reads. My heart skips a beat when a brand spanking new book greets me at my mailbox. I assemble a new stack of books at my bedside, some on my desk, and more by “my chair,” the three places that invite me to sit a spell and meander through the words of great minds.
So during February you’ll most likely find this hobbit tucked away under a cloud of grey blankets (look for the bandana), with my nose inside the pages of someone else’s thoughts drinking in the love.
Happy Love Month!
Love You sweet sister in Christ! Thanks for the encouragement ❤
I’ve missed u, Patsy.
The last message was with you and your umbrella. I do hope you are feeling stronger. I have also had the terrible flue, 3 weeks. I’m back with flowers, bushes and thrift shopping.
Also thank u.😊 for this recent note.
I just purchased Windows of the Soul for a gift to a friend. That book is one I read over and over again. And gift to others. It is a must read that will change your life! Love to you, my Hobbit friend!
Just love your outlook, Patsy! I’ve been grumbling about the gray days…you put it into perspective! Thank you!
Patsy, I have bought All your books ! Enjoyed every one, I feel like I know you !! I have shared your YouTube videos to my friends.
The greatest thing I have taken away from your testimony, is you have God reading to you through His word !! And you listen ! I loved the references for books, Museum art, music that you love, paintings— I looked them all up ! God bless all you put your heart and hands to—-
I’m enjoying Fully Alive by Ken Davis! A Baptist Boy but charming anyway. 😘
Ken is a dear friend of our family!
Patsy,
You are as cute as a hobbit, too! I am *finally* reading The Hobbit. My daughter said I have to stop reading Tolkien *quotes* which are tucked into a number of the many books which I devour, and start reading his whole books. You and I just maybe could have a book competition. I think my husband would only allow me to enter this contest if you win, and your grand prize would be to inherit the gazillions of books on the shelves of my bookcases in the basement. He says that our basement is sinking. I also have books squirreled away in my study, hearthroom, bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen table, and kitchen pantry. Yes, indeed: I removed food for food for thought! From the day I met you via AWSA, I have loved you. So I send you both book love and God’s love during these gray, but grateful days of February. Surely God’s love is most eloquently expressed in the world’s best book, His Word, the Bible, and through THE Word, His Son.
I LOVE your post!
xoxo
Lynn
PS I have read Gire’s Windows of the Soul forty-million times. It is dog-eared, underlined, yellow-highlighted, and scribbled in the margins. You will love this book!
Girl, I love that you can pull off the bandana look. Some of use don’t have the face for it. I actually tried several bandanas, head pieces, and hair clips yesterday in my newly fashioned short (really short) HAIRDO ……unfortunately for me, all it left me with was …a HAIR DON’T.
Praying that your February will fill you with enough LOVE and JOY, so you can MARCH right through SPRING…in your beautiful red bandana…..God bless you as you continue to WALK in HIS will….
Oh Patsy, you are so cute…. yes that red bandanna has become your trademark. Sending love and hugs this morning! I can just see you under your blankies reading a good book!
Thank you Patsy for sending me this little love letter and two new books to consider adding to my collection. I love both of these authors and they are certainly on my “recommend list” to others. I have often told my husband, I wish I had three heads so I could be reading my books simultaneously. Yes, I have my piles also, though I did remove the ones that were behind the drapes in the guest room and put them in a box. No more room on the bookshelves. He has been very gracious since he knows besides loving on my 2 1/2 year old grandson, and spending time with him, it’s books, books, books that take me away. God bless you Patsy, please keep writing and introducing us to new books for ourselves and to share with others.
Hello Patsy!! Thanks for the info about these books. Have a blessed day!
And beside my bed is….
I Grew up Little by Patsy Clairmont
The reading so far has encouraged me in many ways…. That life is not always easy but with God we have all we really need as His love carries us. Also, that I need to pen in my life to share with others as a testimony ….
Thanks Patsy….. Read on!
Patsy, you have “zest for life” it’s your gift from God to share with us. I love to read your thoughts, you move me closer to Jesus.❤️
Blessings,
Terry
HI Patsy, I sure enjoy your blog, your books, everything! I too, am small in stature, so I seem to relate well! I’d love to hear more about your journey through your anxiety and how the Lord brought you out! I’m dealing with those issues in my life right now~~ Any ideas??
Hi Patsy,
I have the book “Windows of the Soul”. As I recall, it was a very good book. I may need to read it again. I have a library of six shelves of books I bought at various times, because the titles appealed to me or they were highly recommended by someone. I want to read them all, but it seems insurmountable. So there they sit on the shelves waiting for someone to read them.
From Billie in Houston: Presently reading J.Eldredges’ newest. Love his books!
My absolute FAV too❤️ Nothing better than a good book and snuggly blanket!!
I was at WOF almost from the beginning, their second year I believe with my daughter Michelle. Michelle thought it would be nice to see the different states so each year we attended WOF all over the country from Alabama where we live.We met you and became enamored with you and love you still. We were on the first WOF cruise. You are a great storyteller. Thanks for all you given, taught and being true to yourself. You are an inspiration to millions I’m sure.
Love you Patsy you always brighten my days💕
Thanks for the reading tips!
Hi Patsy! I smile just reading your blog. Thank you for bringing more “SON”shine into every day. I look forward to checking out some of your suggested reads. Are any of your books available on audio? That would be the icing on the cake! Thank you for everything!
Patsy, You are the sweetest! I love your wreath with the bird logo. It just makes me smile. I love it! I’m a book person too, I love the touch and smell of a new book ~ not just the insides! We gentle spirits enjoy a cold blustery day to snuggle up with a good read! It’s my favorite! Bless You Sweet Girlfriend! K
Thanx to you I’ve been validate….I’m a Hobbit too….even though I’ve never read the book (I know I know…never read the great romances or even Charlottes Web but have read truckloads of books over the years). Love your blog….you bring a smile to our faces!
Hi Patsy! Thank you for your ministry to women. I so enjoy the humor you lovingly insert into my life. I saw the “Let There Be Light” YouTube clip while back and your humor in the midst of a difficult time regarding your friend has brought me a smile every time I think about it! Thanks for sharing your heart “Patsy Style”! God bless you!
Patsy, thank you for bringing sunshine to my day! I love the way you say things to make me laugh. You are a wonderful blessing! 🌞
Reading is especially comforting in the cold of winter. I will try one of these books for sure.
You will always be one of my favorite inspirations and makers of laughter.
Always enjoy your humor and thought provoking words of wisdom. I too have books in many special areas. I have so enjoyed you, whether it be at a Women of Faith conference or reading the inspiring truths that you post daily for devotions. Have a wonderful day dear Patsy!💝
Patsy, I love these books, I eat books for breakfast ~ and what a blessing to find out your a red bandana kinda girl!
I just did a Memorial for my brother Tom Yesterday ~ a retired Marine and Retired Movie Star! And reading this today made me “Big Smile”… 60 of us all wore Red Cravats (c’mon show-biz here in Hollywood) do not call them bandana.
My Brother Tom Reese had a “red cravat”trademark too for 50 years…
Lord’s Blessings on You!

Thanks for the recommend reads:)! I, too, have a book everywhere I might have a few minutes, including my purse and car. A lot of books to read are Women of Faith treasures – some I have read, but want to reread. Thanks for all your years of bringing joy to so many women, myself including!

God has used you to touch the lives of many women.
Don’t ever change.
Thank you Patsy for sharing all the scriptures, red bandana, colorful wardrobe, wonderful sense of humor, messages, books, your life, love and the love of Christ with thousands of women. I am rereading the book you gave me in Denver at the last Women of Faith Farewell Tour when I was a Talent Runner at the Pepsi Center. I have been so blessed for many years to attend the majority of WOF events in Denver, CO and Hartford, CT. Thank you for always sharing your heart. You are loved more than you know.

Take care, and may you and all your loved ones be gifted with an abundance of blessings from our Father.

You are a delightful person, Patsy! Hobbits have been high on my lists of favorites since 1968 when I first read the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings in college. I see the resemblance! You are now my favorite hobbit as well as one of my favorite Christian encouragers!
Good things come in small packages!
You are a hobbit of wisdom.
Enjoy the moment ♥️
Thank you SO much for spending 1 whole hour in our video chat several weeks ago! I Wish we’d had the funds to pay for the whole series of chats, but, alas, we did not. No worries, though! You’ve filled me wquotes quotes ith inspiration and the assurance that I can truly write a book about Bipolar Disorder now, butfrom the patient’s perspective. I just need to start reading the authors I already love in order to gather quotes and so forth. My severe vertigo makes that impossible right now, butI know it will subside so I can read and type on the computer. God is In control, and He will help me!
It was such a joy to meet you! Keep writing.
Patsy, I’m a hobbit as well:)
