Flighty…

You’ve heard of right-brained and left-brained. Well, I’m bird brained. No, not in regard to my cranial capacity but referring to my love for winged creatures. A portion of my brain takes great delight in the flight and fancy of birds.

I don’t love all birds equally. For instance, I’m not terribly fond of vultures or dodo birds. Now the gooney bird, he’s pretty entertaining, and the turkey, though not exactly handsome, does trigger some succulent memories of holiday fare.

My all time favorite feathered friend would have to be the bluebird. Perhaps because seeing one is such an occasional happening it’s a thrill when suddenly this blue wonder crosses your path. Besides, if you ever see the sunlight refract off their feathers, your heart will take flight. The blue in a bluebird takes on a new meaning as you memorize their unduplicated color.

Have you noticed the mention of birds in the Scriptures? The Psalms says, “How lovely are Thy dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! The bird also has found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young” (Ps 84:1,3)

I choose to believe the “bird” is referring to a bluebird. Besides, the swallows and the bluebirds, even though they compete with each other for housing, are usually in nesting proximity. In this verse both birds have found lovely dwelling places. I like that. In fact, it mentions the birds nest on the Lords’ altars and how blessed are those who dwell in the house of the Lord. Hmmm, even the birds can be examples.

Matthew tells us, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matt. 6:26)

Hmm, even the birds can be examples

Hummingbirds make me smile! So do chickadees and cardinals (as they remind me of growing up in WV [the state bird]).

I also love bluebirds more than any other and when I get to see one I feel as if God is saying a special “I love you” to me.

*grins* Reminds me of a Rich Mullins lyric, from the song ‘Hard’-
“Well His eye’s on the sparrow
And the lilies of the field I’ve heard
And He will watch over you and He will watch over me
So we can dress like flowers and eat like birds”

Can’t believe I was just thinking about this in the earlier today then again as I found myself worrying while driving. The bird is a symbol to me everytime I see one I think look, they aren’t worried and He takes care of them. Thanks for the third reminder for me today Patsy. Truly a blessing from God! Ok, I got it God….I won’t worry! 🙂

Bluebirds are beautiful, but I love the redbirds or Cardinals a lot. Of course that could be because I’m from OH and that’s our state bird.

I’ve had birds on my mind lately too, Ms. Clairmont. Beautiful post. “You’re worth more than a million canaries.” ~ Matthew 10:29, The Message

I love the idea of the carefree flight and flitter of birds being associated with what life will be like in heaven. And being a Christian singer in my church… I love the song of a bird. Everyone one of them is unique and special.

Such a good visual! Thank you! =)

Hummingbirds…. My most precious, sweet, dear Grandma…. she was born on Easter Sunday 4/1922…. went home to be with our Awesome heavenly Father on Good Friday, 4/22/11. To me, this was NO coincidence, as Grandma had the purset heart of anyone I have ever known in my almost 50 years of life on earth. Several years ago, to my own surprise the words, “how, Grandma, will I know when you visit me after you go home to be with the Lord?” She simply said, as she held my face between her two soft hands, “I’ll be the hummingbird!” It was one of the most precious moments I have ever had.
Therefore, of course, hummingbirds are a definite favorite for me!
My God’s infinite blessings gently flutter through each of your lives…. <3<3<3
    Jesus is so good.
Stay in the SONlight of the Spirit,
    Deb

I must admit, Ms. Patsy, while on the Franklin tour of homes this weekend I saw a huge bluebird (Eastern) and was got so excited that I think I made a scene or at least a stir.

Yes, birds can be great examples.

    Thanks for sharing!

I love birds! You are right, they are fantastic examples. They don’t worry about life like we humans do. And they are so patient when they are nesting and nurturing their young ones, unlike we humans, who want to rush everything and get impatient with our little ones. Birds bring such joy to my heart! Almost as much as Jesus, but not quite! : )

My mother loved birds. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting at the dorrway to their deck, watching ‘her’ birds land at the feeders and chatter away at each other. When Mom and Dad first moved to the country, Mom bought a bird-book to help her identify species. Now, whenever I see a bird in my own garden, I think of my mother and imagine that little winged creature is a ‘hello’ from Mom.
