Adoration
|
by Martha Kilpatrick
Softcover -
$8.95 |
Have you ever read a book that took your breath a way
with the freshness of its perspective? That's how I responded to Adoration
by Martha Kilpatrick. It is an astonishing portrayal of Mary of Bethany.
Just about the
time I think I've heard it all, the Lord uses someone to resuscitate
my lagging insight. I've always believed that Mary choose the better
part when she deliberately sat at Jesus feet, yet I also credited Martha
with a productive contribution, but after considering Mrs. Kilpatrick's
musings I realized I missed the point. Listen
"To make
a noisy display of your labors is to perform for the audience of humanity."
Ouch! Mary's sister
Martha did that
and so have I. More times than I care to mention
I have tooted my own horn or whined about others lack of appreciation
of my efforts.
"Work is
a sorry god whose reward is strangely empty. It never pays the wage
of love that is anticipated."
How true that is
like pulling up a bucket from a dry well.
"Flesh
is Martha's vain delusion-Spirit is Mary's instinctive reality
In
God's family, Flesh become workers and Spirit are worshippers."
This is a small
volume with powerful content. I find myself returning to it again and
again to meditate upon this Spirit revealed writing. If you are looking
for a meaty offering or want a study that's worthy of group discussion
this 133-page treasure will fill your hours and more important your
heart with heaven's counsel.

The
Bible Jesus Read
|
|
Regular
Price: $19.99
Your Price: $16.00 |
What would you do if given a manuscript of words read by Jesus Christ, himself?
That is exactly what we have been given in the books of the Old Testament.
And although it is easy to get lost in the detailed (and sometimes boring)
events of history, as well as the often puzzling supernatural experiences,
there is much to discover as we see a God who is intimate and personal,
and seeks a relationship with man. The God of the Old Testament is also
the God of today - one who loves us, who calls us His children, and makes
us His highest priority. Why wouldn't we want to know more about this God,
and thus gain greater insight into Jesus Christ? I invite you to embark
on a journey of the past (and the men and women God chose as His own), so
that you may receive insights into the heart of God and a fresh look at
your own future in Christ.

Faith
|
|
Regular Price: $10.00
Your Price: $7.50 |
Have you always been intrigued by the idea of mail order brides that
were common place in the 1800's? I have, and that is why I was
drawn instantly to this book. Faith Kallahan is a
nineteen year old girl who answers an ad for a mail order bride.
She is on her way from her small home town in Michigan to the
south of Texas. She is determined to make a success of her marriage
to rancher Nicholas Shepherd. Things don't always
work out as we plan, which is evident from the moment Faith arrives
in Deliverance. She instantly clashes with her soon to be mother-in-law
and even her prospective husband. What a way to start a marriage!
The wedding is postponed countless times and the union between
Nicholas and Faith is unsure. All the while, the
two are caring more and more for each other, but their stubbornness
still keeps them apart. I invite you to visit
Deliverance, TX to see what God has in store for Faith and Nicholas. Book review by

she has been struggling with forbidden things all her life. While preparing for her

simple women own such an extravagant item? To whom did it belong? And
what would it mean to Katie's future? Follow Katie as she seeks
out her true identity and searches for answers she needs to know. I
have always been fascinated with the Amish and their ways and
I found this story to have exceptional
accuracy giving it credibility. Katie's journey takes twists
and turns keeping the reader involved in her quest for the truth. If you enjoy The

A
Christian's Secret of a Happy Life
|
Regular
Price: $6.00
Your Price: $4.50 |
A classic is defined as "having a lasting significance or worth:
enduring." There are
many wonderful classics available to us today: authors like Charles
Spurgeon, Andrew Murray, Hannah Hurnard, Watchman Nee, and Hannah
Whitall Smith who have left us with a treasury of foundational
wisdom. One
of my personal favorites is "The Christian Secret of a Happy
Life," by Hannah W. Smith. Years
ago, I was struggling with feelings that the Lord must not love
me because
I was going through so many difficult trials. I didn't understand
why he didn't rescue me and I certainly couldn't see how what I
was suffering through could have value. In Smith's book, she
has a chapter entitled "Is God in Everything?" The
Lord used that chapter as a turning point in my faith. I read
the chapter onto a cassette tape and played it over, and over, and
over allowing the insights to permeate my insecure heart. How
healing it was then and continues to be today. Perhaps
you have a copy tucked away--may I encourage you to root it out,
dust it off, and give it another go over. If you don't have
a copy, but would like to own this inspiring classic we'd love
to help you expand your library and your faith. Book

Redeeming Love
|
|
Regular
Price: $12.99
Your Price: $9.75 |
Have you ever read a book and wish you had written it? That is how I feel
about Redeeming Love, a book by Francine Rivers. It's a breathtaking
portrayal of God's pursuing love of a prostitute. I was held spellbound as
Angel repeatedly ran from the only One who could redeem her shame-filled life
and awaken her deadened heart.
I gave my
friend, Ginny, a copy of Redeeming Love and her husband,
Alan, absconded with it and read it straight through. He said reading
the story of Mr. Hosea's unconditional love for Angel stirred Alan
to love his wife more fervently. He now heartily recommends the
novel to all his guy friends.

Toot and Puddle
|
|
Regular
Price: $12.95
Your Price: $9.75 |
Sweet is the word I would use to describe Toot and
Puddle, a
children's book written by artist Holly Hobbie. Actually, add to sweet words darling,
adorable, and endearing. I found the artwork to be compelling,
pleasing to the eye and enhancing to the story. The spunky detailing adds
to the adventure. This story about two pigs from Woodcock Pocket demonstrates
how to stay friends even when you're very different. I loved the little postcards
sent between the friends. The book charmed my socks off and won the hearts
of all my friends as well.
